Fiona
loves to "herd birds," a job she takes quite seriously. But she also
excels at frisbee. My favorite photo of her is in midair going for a frisbee,
because that crazy look she has expresses her true personality.
She is busy learning new tricks and games almost as fast as I can teach them
to her. Not only has she been learning new words and commands, but she tries
to teach me her own commands. (She's much smarter than I because I still
can't figure out what each bark she makes means, but I'm working on it.)
Fiona is my second Border Collie. My first Bonnie, who died at nearly fifteen
years, and I knew I had to have another dog and soon, as I was going totally
crazy with the quiet house! I had seen a red merle Australian Shepherd at a
dog show years before and fell in love with that color. I knew that every
color Aussies come in, Border's come in as well and set out to find one. I
ended up finding a breeder who just happened to have a beautiful little red
merle puppy (whose birthday was the day before mine!) and a couple of weeks
later Fiona became a part of my life. Of course, she is much more than a
color. Her personality is everything I could have ever hoped for and much more.
Waking up in the morning with an assortment of toys in the bed (or being
waken up by rolling over on a squeaky toy) is a daily occurrence. Just
yesterday my neighbor's daughter came over and wanted to see if we could get
Fiona to jump through her hula hoop. A couple of little cheese treats later
and Fiona was sailing through the hula hoop! She is always open to learn any
new game we can come up with. Living with Fiona is a fun adventure every
single day. She is a very busy and deliriously happy dog every waking moment!
