Babe
joined our family three months after we married. She is a gorgeous girl,
and has those caramel colored eyes that look directly into your soul, so you
know she is not just listening, she understands. She is a loyal girl who has
mellowed with age. She is the "mama" to our two smaller dogs, pug mixes, who
adore her. And of course has her own plush dog bed to relaz when the day's
work is done. Her stubbornness has been frustrating at times but now we just
chuckle because we know she's just being herself.
Babe entered our lives as a puffy, ball of puppy fur. She was a pound puppy
and the only thing we knew about her was she looked like a husky and her
brother looked like a chocolate lab, and they were rescued from a Wyoming
dump. She was a very lazy puppy, laying down to eat (which she is doing again
as an old lady) and grunting. That, along with her pink speckled belly,
spurred us to name her Babe, like the talking pig. She is leery of men with
beards, not sure if there was an incident as a puppy, but she really loves
women. Once new people get to know her, they love to pet her and scratch her ears.
She has accompanied us on three moves and always misses the last home. When
we moved across town she kept escaping to go back to the old house. She has a
crazy sense of direction. She isn't fond of water but she will dip her toes
when the summer heat gets too warm for her.
She was getting very lethargic and "old," when we got our pug mixes who have
spurred her to live another several years with us. I think they gave her
something to live for and she loves them! She likes her space, but the older
she gets the more she will allow the puggles to snuggle with her.
Babe can shake and sit on command, but otherwise she is kind of a stubborn,
old lady and does her own thing! She isn't very good at fetch but she is
definitely a Husky and can pull the leash. You have to hang on! She is the
smaller dogs' protector and often bathes them (with her tongue)!
We are happy she came into our lives when she did and we will be really sad when she leaves us!
