Jake
is a very strange dog who always finds a way to make me laugh. We
got him when he was two.
Our neighbors noticed that our Lab/Golden Retriever mix, Esther, had
passed away. About three months later, they met us at the fence in between
our yards and told us that one of their family members were loosing
their house and couldn't take Jake with them. They had told us a lot
about Jake, even that they had brought over food for Jake because he
was only eating table scraps they couldn't afford dog food for him.
Knowing all that we took Jake in as our own even though we were still
mourning over our last dog we weren't going to let him end up in the pound.
The first couple nights he paced and barked. We seriously thought
about giving him back to the owner. They came back to visit and
brought his toys and a pillow from their house and when they went to
leave he tried to dig out of the fence... after a few weeks he was
fine. He had real bad food aggression which became a serious problem
when he had bones or was digging in the trash nobody could walk by him
let alone stop him from eating trash. Well one night he had a hold of
a chicken bone and my dad tried to get it away from him and he lounged
at him and he was growling really bad if my dad wouldn't have grabbed
him when he did he would have gotten bitten.
Dad said, "That's it this dog is going to the pound we can't have him
biting the kids.. He didn't even hesitate to bite me. We just can't
have a dog like that in our house."
Well, after some time with him, the next day Jake was a changed dog,
like he knew what he had done and ever since has been a great dog. He
very talkative but still. I can now take bones from him and even stick
my hand in his food bowl. He also doesn't dig out of the trash. He now
knows we love him, and will feed him every day, and he doesn't need to
ever go hungry again. I love him; he is my best friend. I don't know
what I would have done if he was sent to the pound.
