Maggie is special because she is the most loyal dog, and the funniest. Although she is a Collie/Staffie mix, she thinks she is human; she sleeps in my bed, and in the morning she will wake me up to take her into the garden, and then go back to bed. She's really smart for a dog too, she can open doors using the handle on her own, and when we take her for a walk she doesn't need a leash because she stops at the road and checks for cars before crossing!
Before Maggie, we had a German Shepherd named Max. My mum had had him before I was born, and I grew up with him as my bestfriend. Unfortunately, the older he got the sicker he got, and it was cruel to keep him in pain so we had to let him go. I was still heartbroken 2 years after that, but then we got Maggie. She never replaced him, but she helped. 6 years on and it's more like having a hairy baby than a dog. Everyone loves her.
She's a really greedy dog, we call her Piggy sometimes because she will eat almost anything - apart from dog food! She's still a good bodyguard, though. She will sit on the couch and look out of the window for anyone coming near the house and will bark if its a stranger. She's not violent though, she's never bitten or attacked anyone - the loyalest dog ever.
One time, we had to put her in the back garden whilst my nan came over because she wasn't well and Maggie kept jumping on her. We didn't realize that the kitchen window was open, and there was a ladder propped up near against the wall. Maggie climbed up the ladder, through the window, along the window sill and sat on the counter until someone came to get her.
Whenever anyone in the family gets sick, she spends every minute by our sides. Last week I caught a bug, and she didn't even go into the garden to do her business unless I was going downstairs too.
She really is the funniest, most loving dog anyone could have.
