Daxton,
formally "Cheops Daxton Aurora Panonica", and informally known as
"Dax" to his family, is quite the amazing dog.
The name Daxton means "One who overcomes great adversity," and he has lived
up to every aspect of that description. Born to a small hobby kennel in
Croatia, Daxton soon underwent the first big change in his life, the long
flight to his new home in Houston, Texas, USA.
Soon after his arrival, and despite being vaccinated on schedule, he came
down with the very dangerous parvo virus, and his new owners had to fight for
his life. He was hospitalized for several days and had to have in home care
for two weeks afterwards, but he survived and went on to make a full recovery.
Soon, his owner realized that he could predict the atypical, stroke-like
migraines that she often had, and he began learning the skills required to be
his owners service dog; physically alerting to oncoming migraines and
providing deep pressure therapy and tactile stimulation to help interrupt the
muscle spasms and disorientation associated with them.
Now at eleven months old, Daxton is progressing in his training as an
official service dog and also is a much loved member of his family. He is a
sweetheart to anyone his owner greets at home, though he is protective of his
family if he thinks they are threatened. Out in public he is focused on
working and is kind to everyone. He is a special dog!
