This is my Sasha, she's super intellegent. My first dog was a half Lab/half Shepherd, but she is my first purebred German Shepherd. She is very intelligent almost to the point of being creepy. Like, I can literally have a conversation with her and she stares at me for a long time almost like she understands. It's creepy.
She is super protective inside the house, and outside, but she's more well-behaved on a leash. I can some times take her off the leash and keep her close by, too.
She taught her self how to hold a ball with her paws. She does it for attention. She will roll on her back, scoop the ball out of her mouth with her paws and hold it like she's cupping it. She does a similar thing with a Frisbee, but with that she just holds it between her paws. It's actually incredible because she taught herself how to do this.
She is affectionate when she choose, like someone has been gone from the house or if she wants to go out for a walk or car ride. For the most part, though, she really just kind of ignores everyone when in the house, but we know she keeps her eye on us anyway!
