Chance has been with me since 2011. He was found wandering lost, hungry, tired, and injured in rural Kentucky. The couple who found him tried to keep him, but they said he was "too wild" for them to handle. I've had two retrievers in the past, so I know about their childlike personality and need for lots of exercise, so adopting Chance was a perfect fit for me.
Having been abandoned twice, Chance was initially very insecure and needy. He clung to me everywhere I went _ I'm sure that was his way of expressing fear of being abandoned again. I have a large fenced yard, and being a typical lab he loved to chance anything that moved _ from tennis balls to squirrels foolish enough to come into the yard.
He has a gregarious personality _ everyone is a friend, everywhere is an adventure, and every day is a party. He never met an enemy.
My mom was in the nursing home, and they allowed visitors to bring pets. Once a week I would take Chance, and all of the residents loved to pet and talk to him. He brought back memories of their pets, too, and served to put smiles on many faces.
He's been a great dog, which goes to prove that the greatest things in life are free.
