Austell is a very special dog. She was severely abused by her previous owner at a very young age, so badly that she had her skull cracked in half on the top. We're almost sure he abused her in other ways as well, ass she had scabs on her muzzle. She was on the run for a little while until eventually she was caught by animal control. She was taken into the pound and a rescue stepped in to save her, but because she was so afraid of men, being in a foster home wasn't working and they couldn't keep her.
She was at Petco as a last chance adoption or she was going to have to be euthanized. That's when I stepped in and adopted her. I was having to have my 12-year-old dog, who was like a daughter to me, put to sleep because of old age and poor health. And I knew I wouldn't make it without a dog in the house so I adopted Austell and she's been a very important member of my family since.
