I was on Facebook one day just browsing and I noticed on one of the One Man Junk sites, a lady was giving away a "free" dog. The moment I saw his picture, I fell in love. I didn't know how big or small he was since I could only see his cute little face but I knew I wanted this dog. Prior to Odie, I already had two dogs and knew my husband wouldn't let me have another one, but after talking to him a few times, he finally gave in a few weeks later and said we could get Odie.
The lady that had Odie had found him walking the roads in the rain and took him in. She said she looked and searched for his owner for two months and couldn't find anyone so she was looking for him a forever home. In the state of NC, after 30 days of not finding the owner you can give the dog away, put up for adoption, or sell the animal. The picture the lady had of Odie on facebook, he was in a dog pen outside in the dirt. I felt bad for him but didn't know her reasoning for it so didn't question her about it. On October 29, 2015 we went to go pick up Odie at Sam's Club where we had to meet the lady.
Once we got there and we picked him up, he was scared and shaking. He was filthy and covered in fleas. Once we got him home, my husband gave him a bath and the water was just nasty and he had what seemed to be a thousand fleas on him. Even after his bath, I was still picking fleas off of him. I fed him, gave him water, wrapped him up in a towel to keep him warm. That night he slept in the bed with us and slept right at my head. Odie has been with us ever since.
Odie got his name from Garfield. I had an orange stray cat named Garfield before the pound picked him up and well, Odie looked alot like Odie from the movie/cartoon Garfield and so that is where he got his name from. We've had Odie for two years but didn't know how old he was, so after taking him to the vet, the vet said he looked to be around one year old so we stuck with that.
This month, Odie turned three years old. He is very playful and is a big lap baby. He loves to cuddle up in my lap and fall asleep. He loves to play with my nine-year-old chug (Chihuahua/Pug) and my three-year-old shepherd mix. He doesn't care for my husband much but not sure why. He's never done anything to him. We figured Odie might have been abused by his owner before the lady found him, but we're not sure. He still doesn't like my husband much but loves my brother and other family members.
Odie barks when he wants to play or he will jump in my lap and paw my nose (like my chug does). He's a mess. He also barks and turns around in circles when he has to go potty. If I'm not paying him any attention when he wants me too, he will bark then too. He is crate trained and sleeps in his crate at night and is loose all day during the day unless we are gone to town. He follows me everywhere I go and he loves to be picked up and held. He doesn't like baths much but loves to take a shower with me instead. He doesn't like cats either and runs from them. Silly dog. I nicknamed him Odie Bear because he is soft like a bear. I love my Odie Bear. He's my baby boy.
