How someone could have abandoned Molly on a back road in Virginia we will never understand. When we first adopted her she was a nervous wreck. The sight of a black garbage bag on the street would make her cower. She never made a single sound (not a bark, howl or whimper) because, we theorize, she had been severely punished for doing so in the past. And she never passed a puddle in the street without drinking from it, surely harkening back to a time when she never knew where she could get her next drink.
How she has changed! Molly is a beloved member of our family, and she knows it! She always wants to be with us and follows us around the house. If one of us sits down, she will invariably come over and cuddle up. Molly is still very quiet for a beagle, but not above letting out a few barks if we are too slow serving her breakfast or dinner, or letting out a little howl of delight if a sister comes home to visit. At 12 she's not as active as she once was, but even if she is seemingly sleeping as you enter a room where she lies, a "Hello Molly" will invariably start her tail thumping away.
