This is Penny, whom I love to pieces. Penny had a rough go of it for a while. Her initial family found themselves in financial straits, resulting in the loss of their home. Unable to care for Penny, her family gave her to the local animal shelter, hoping that someone would scoop her up and love her. Fortunately for me, I ended up being that person.
Penny is often mistaken for a beagle puppy. She's neither a puppy nor a full-on beagle, though. Rather, she's a seven-year-old mixed breed, being part beagle and part Jack Russell Terrier. The terrier in her leads to her keeping me apprised of comings and goings. Trash truck headed our way? She'll let me know. Mailman at the door? Again, she'll let me know. She's even been known to bark at the clanging of the radiators during the winter months.
When not serving as an advance warning system, Penny takes great joy in exploring the back garden. She devotes herself to investigating every plant and sniffing the spots where squirrels may have dashed through the yard. She also enjoys napping, preferably in the cushiest spot possible. At times, this means she makes herself comfortable on the pillows on my bed. Or maybe the sofa. Or maybe one of the dog beds to be found throughout the house. Penny also likes car rides; taking walks; playing with my other dog, Bingo; and cuddling, be it with people or with Bingo. Recently, she even got to go on a hayride while visiting a farm. Her all time favorite activity, though, is eating. If I'd let her, she do far more of it.
Of all her many charms, the most endearing is Penny's open and trusting heart. From the moment I brought her home, she has trusted me to do right by her.
