Dixie is an ~8 year old American Staffordshire terrier mix, living in the Toledo OH area.
Dixie was found as a stray on the streets around Detroit, Michigan, was rescued by a shelter and eventually turned over to Lucas County Pit Crew to treat some health issues. At the time we first saw, we were not looking for a dog and really sure we were ready for another. We had been through a very tough year and half losing three dogs, Sadie, Cincy and Spot, and had just moved to a new house. It was around Thanksgiving and with many large family gatherings planned we just didn't feel it was the right time to add to the family. So we waited. And about six weeks later, when this beautiful girl was still available, we decided we had to meet her.
Dixie was the perfect dog at the perfect time. Her favorite things are laying in the sun, playing ball (but not for too long, her little legs wear out quick) and snuggling up to her human kids. She recently had a knee replacement, but has bounced back strong and still loves to tear down the stairs in the morning and jump on the beds at night to tuck everyone in. She loves to be read to, get belly rubs (those get a big smile!) and even tolerates walks in the park. She is our Dog of the Day, every day!
