In February of 2014 my boyfriend's brother passed away suddenly. In September of the same year we unexpectedly lost our Aussie, Zoee, just a few months before her 10th birthday. Our boy dog, Taggart, was very sad, so we began looking for a new sister for him. I volunteer at a non-profit shelter but they did not have any females that we thought would be a match. We attended a pet fair and there was a herding breed rescue there. That is where we first saw Isabella, or Bella. We walked around with her (even taking her around cats to see if she reacted) and decided to bring her home. She was 8 months old.
Before we even found a dog we had two names in mind, Zeplyn and Zephyr. And yes, Zeplyn is after the band Led Zeppelin and also the airship like the Hindenburg. But we changed up the spelling to make it more feminine.
Her first vet visit they estimated her birthday to be in February. After talking to my boyfriend and making sure he was okay with it, her official date of birth is the same day his brother passed away. I feel like Scott passed the same day Zeplyn was born. So she turned 6 on February 19th.
Zeplyn is a cuddler. She likes to sit with me and snuggle her head into my shoulder. She is also a huge ball freak!!! Nothing else matters if you are throwing a ball (or any toy for that matter) for her to fetch. She has her favorite ball that she will go find when I tell her to. It's the green spikey one in the photo. One time it was on the kitchen chair that was pushed under the table and after searching ALL over the house (she even was looking up on the dresser, which I've never seen her do before) she finally found it!
Tricks she knows are sit, down, beg, touch and leave it. Leave it is the best command ever for her. She will be stalking the cat and I tell her to leave it and she immediately will stop and go do something else.
One thing Zeplyn does not like is wind. When it is windy outside she acts like something is about to get her. She also is not a fan of fireworks, thunder and loud music. Which is a problem since my boyfriend is a sound technician and has band practice at our house sometimes.
She loves her brother and her cat siblings. She also loves to be outside and will stay outside for hours just enjoying the sun. We love our Zeplyn and hope you enjoy her story and her photos.
