Louie was two years old is this picture, he is ten now, but this is my all time favorite photo of him, as it captures the wrinkles he gets on his forehead when he is listening intently to me. Louie is a Basenji which is a breed originally from Africa, but he is here in Ontario, far North of his breed's home. He is such a handsome boy, with his shiny coat and curled tail, that he attracts attention wherever we go. He has adapted well to life here - he does not particularly like cold rain, but enjoys snow, and jumps and rolls in it with apparent glee.
Louie is a smart boy, and picked up on everything we taught him very quickly. He is fairly independent though, so sometimes practices what we call 'selective hearing' if it's a command he is not interested in at the moment. Basenji are called 'barkless' but that does not mean they are silent. He yodels, and can carry on quite a conversation.
Best of all, though, he is a sweet boy and loves his cuddle time at the end of a busy day. We love him very much.
