Mabel is a very unique character. As a puppy she was rescued from the streets near the Mexican border then taken to a shelter in San Diego. When I spotted her she was giving her cell-mate an earful. Mabel is a real talker. We think she may have some sort of sight hound lineage due to here sharp eye and speed. She is a tall, lean (30 lbs.) full-of-piss-and-vinegar girl.
Going for a ride and putting her head out the window tops her favorite things list. Mabel and her sister, Lucille, are very well traveled girls. They frequent Mexico and the California desert with regularity. When in San Felipe (Mexico) she plays in the water, visits the other beach residents, chases birds and enjoys leisurely naps. While staying at The Salton Sea she is on constant "patrol." Mabel considers the perimeter her job, which she takes very seriously. It's hard to make her come in at night from patrolling the area.
When at home Mabel still has perimeter duty but is less serious and more playful. She is not a girl that requires a lot of fussing over but when she wants something she is in your face telling you what it is. Treats are given generously along with butt scratching and playing tug-of-war with the rope. She can start running around the room like a crazy beast without much provocation. Mabel does need regular "puppa love" ... this is her in your lap like a baby getting her belly rubbed.
Do not, I repeat DO NOT, shine a laser pointer in her direction because she is the girl to get that red dot and make it pay for whatever she thinks it's done. Mabel has many names depending on her mood - May Belle, Maple, Missy Thing, Coyote Girl, Supermodel are the most common. She is always in a good mood and her tale never stops showing appreciation. We love that she is such a funny, sweet and vocal member of our family.
