Ravin is so special to me I am afraid I will not be able to put it into words... I still don't think I can, but I will try.

Before I got sick (we won't talk about that) I used to rescue dogs ... lots of dogs. I don't mean to brag or toot my own horn but I have rescued well over 300 dogs from the pound. I worked with a non-profit group and was able to pull animals (dogs in particular) out of the pound for free. I would bring some of them into my own home and get them altered, de-wormed, vaccinated, microchipped, and any other veterinary care they needed. Once that was done I would find them their forever family. I did this for over 50 dogs. For some dogs I would either transport them to a rescue group, keep them at my house for a short amount of time until a foster home would open up, or a rescue would come to me to get the dog or dogs. Anyway this is how Ravin came into my life. She was number 37 on the foster line up and she would prove to be a foster failure (that's when foster parent can't give up the dog because they have gotten too attached).

I met Ravin at the pound when she was a six-week-old puppy. It was July 26, 2008. She was hiding in the back corner of a dark kennel ... I didn't even see her my first trip around the kennels. I tried to get her to come to me but she refused, so I told her that I was going to take her whether she liked it or not. I went up to the front and told them what dog I wanted to pull. When they brought her out to me, the man exclaimed that she bit him, and was I sure I wanted her. I said, "Of course!" and got in the car with her and took her home with me.

Once she was spayed at eight weeks of age I started taking her to adoption events. She was so shy and skittish no one was very interested in her. Then one day something bad happened to me and I came home to Ravin and she was the only one who could console me. I had major anxiety about leaving the house after that and could only do so if Ravin was with me. So anyways she ended up staying with me and helping me with my anxiety. Now I can drive without her but I still can't sleep without her so I had her become an official registered Service Dog. She flies everywhere with me. She has been to Washington State three times, Arizona four times, Washington D.C. one time, and we just got back from her first trip to Chicago. She has also stayed at numerous hotels in California. Ravin is a great traveler and no real training was done to get her prepared to travel. She always knew just what to do.

When we are home Ravin likes to play with her toys, other people in the family, the parrots, and other dogs. Unfortunately our new dog Maizy doesn't like to play with her. When Ravin is not playing she is right by my side wherever I am. I suffer from another illness besides anxiety so I am in bed a lot. Ravin is always in bed with me. She likes to be under the covers laying so at least one part of her body is touching me. If I have to get up to go to the bathroom to throw up she lays outside the door of the bathroom and waits for me. I spend most of my time away from everyone else so Ravin is great company and I talk to her and ask her questions just as I would any human. Call me crazy, but I know what she is saying back to me.

Ravin was meant to be dumped at the pound so I could save her. But I didn't really save her at all ... she has saved me. I am not lying when I say that I would not be alive if Ravin was not with me. She is truly amazing in every way and I love her more than anything in the whole world.
