This
is Khaleesi, she is a lovable puppy of a unique breed/hybrid, with
blue/green "cracked marble" eyes. She was originally named "Cruella" by the
breeder- and the litter was called the "Monster" litter, with litter-mate
names like Elvira, Mudusa, Franki (Frankenstein), etc. We changed her name
when we got her to Khaleesi, the title of a ruling character in the fictional
"Game of Thrones" books and TV series, and we think it suits her much better!
Khalessi is a Catahoula Bulldog- a recognized cross between the Louisiana
Catahoula Leopard Dog and the American Bulldog resulting in a rare breed. It
is a very old American breed used in the south for working, hunting, and
family/property protection as well as being a devoted companion. The dogs can
be registered with several registries. Puppies can come in a wide range of
coloring from merle like Khaleesi to white with eyes being brown, green, ice
blue, gold, or a combination of these. The breed was developed over 100 years
ago for multiple purposes but basically so ranchers/farmers could combine the
abilities of two dogs into one, thus reducing the number of dogs they
maintained for a particular purpose/job on the farm. This breed is currently
in development so the standard has not been set therefore weights have a wide
range with males reaching 80 to 120 pound (36 - 54 kg) and females slightly less than
their male counterparts. These dogs are superbly intelligent and form an
unbreakable bond with their families.
We invested in Lifetime Training with a wonderful woman, and only four hours
of training has certainly paid dividends. At an early age, she surprised us
by having a above-average intellect, takes to training quickly and is already
protective of the family/pack! She gives paw (left and right!) sits and comes
at age ten weeks. She can also be stubborn and hard-headed, with almost
boundless energy. She also sleeps in some of the funniest positions I have
ever seen. I love her a lot!
