Patch
is my best friend in the whole world. We rescued her when she was
little before we moved from Colorado to Kentucky, the shelter wasn't sure
about her age. She, her six siblings and her mom were locked in a car on the
side of a road in Colorado and left to die. Thankfully a passerby noticed
them. Unfortunately, only three puppies made it and their mom was euthanized
shortly after. After they were nursed back to health the city told them they
had a week to adopt them out or they would euthanized, due to the Denver pit
bull/pit bull mix ban. The shelter scrambled, going everywhere trying to find
someone to adopt the puppies, which is where we come in.
My family had no intention of getting a dog that day. We went out for a day
of fun getting breakfast at Starbucks and then hitting up Barnes and Noble.
Me being me, I saw dogs outside of a PetSmart and just had to look. Lo and
behold, there were the little puppies rolling around on top of one another.
One looked up at my dad, begging to be picked up. He did, and, ensuring the
other pups found good homes, we ended up coming home with our first dog ...
and no breakfast for us!
She is the biggest goofball I've ever met, other than our second dog Ozzie
(RIP buddy). She needs to be with the family, and wants to be a part of
everything we do. She loves her bones and her pillow, those are her two
favorite things in the whole wide world.
One of the funniest things was, and most amazing, is the way she reacts to
having her picture taken. When we first adopted her she was terrified of only
two things: not seeing someone's eyes and cameras. She would hide and tremble
at the sight of a camera, it was heartbreaking. (I believe it was due to the
amount of photos taken by law enforcement at the time they were found and
associating cameras with that experience). The photo of her as a puppy were
taken almost two months after adopting her, and you can still see the
uneasiness. However, almost six years late,r she sees my camera and boom goes
into diva mode, striking poses and shooting me looks. Her transformation has
been amazing. Going from a nervous wreck of a puppy to a confident dog is
incredible. (Plus, she is now the star of my photography portfolio!)
