Guardian
is an eight-year-old Border Collie. I got him as a puppy, at eight
weeks old, in my third year of university and fell in love with him. He was a
very bad puppy that got in to tons of trouble and was difficult to
housebreak. I was living on my own at the time, however my mom would often
come over to visit. She hated Guardian and desperately wanted me to get rid
of him. One day she forced me to pack Guardian in the back of my car and
drive down to the pound. I sat in the parking lot at the local shelter for 30
minutes and cried. I just could not do it. I drove back home with Guardian in
the back of my car and told my mom I could not do it. She offered to do it
for me, but I told her "absolutely not!" and stood my ground.
Through trial and tribulation (and a few expensive, over priced sessions with
a useless trainer who believed in "pack theory") I learned what to do and
what not to do with my dog. I started to clicker train him and taught him
useful behaviors. When he was about a year old I took him to his first
frisbee competition and he actually won a few ribbons. I was so proud of him
and we have been doing disc dog ever since then.
My mom now loves him and has more in common with him than meets the eye. They
both have discoid lupus. He is an all around wonderful dog. We (him and I)
are both scared of needles, love cheese and food, early mornings and friends.
Guardian sleeps with me at night right by my side.
