This
is Blade a.k.a. The Blade Runner. Blade is my first Border Collie. But
he is my second herding breed dog. I have, Cricket, an Australian Shepherd,
that I did flyball with. We enjoyed it so much I decided to get another dog
for flyball and decided on a Border Collie.
Blade is my Guardian Angel. He knew I had a heart problem before I did. This
last winter He would sit at the side of my bed and howl every night until I
woke up. Then he would rub his face next to my face and chest and then lay
down next to me. I didn't know why he was doing this.
About a month later I found out I have cardiomyopathy. A virus had hit my
heart. He sensed when my breathing wasn't right during the night. I thought
it was just my asthma acting up with all the cold weather we had.
I did wonder why he was waking me up at night. I thought there was something
wrong with him. It wasn't until I went to the Dr. and she wanted me to go for
an echo gram right away. Only 10-15% of my heart was working so he did save
my life by waking me up. One night I stayed by a friend's house and I woke up
gasping for breath. That was scary. I will always have him with me now at
night. I guess he is like my service dog.
Blade loves to compete in flyball racing. He is one of the top pointed dogs
in the North American Flyball Association. All Border Collie love to work,
and he thinks this is the best job ever! He is my best friend, my partner,
and my teammate. He is my heart and soul dog. I love this boy!!
