I
rescued Wookiee from a puppy mill at the age of fourteen months. He was in a
kennel with fifteen other puppies. He was terrified and hid under my bed for
almost three weeks when he first came home with me. I'm in a wheelchair and
suffer from Multiple Sclerosis as well as seizures.
One day, I transferred from my bed to wheelchair to go to the bathroom, and
here's Wookiee, still peeking his precious lil face out from under the bed.
I'd try my best to coax him out by talking to him, with treats ... But he'd
just lay there watching me. I went into the bathroom, and we had our
"conversation" as I did what I needed to do. All off sudden, he popped out
from under the bed and began to bark, pace, whine and spin in circles. I kept
on talking to him, trying to coax him into the bathroom with me, along him:
"What's wrong baby?" But he kept his little barking mantra going, getting
more and more anxious with each passing moment.
Then I realized what was about to happen to me! The halos and the sweet smell
of baking bread filled my nose. I was about to have a seizure!!!! I tried to
my best to hurry up and transfer to my wheelchair to make it back to my bed,
but everything went black!
When I awoke - there on my chest trying his best to wake me was wookiee!!
Licking my face with tears running down his li'l tiny face (real droplets of
tears, not just wet eyes, real tears)!
From that day forward, he has never left my side. He's been certified as a
seizure/therapy assistance animal, so he can come everywhere I go. He rides
on my wheelchair like he's king of the world.
Here, this poor, tiny five pound (2.3 kg) dog who has been through one of the roughest lives
I could ever imagine - comes and rescues me! He's truly my hero!
