This
is Shannon, a dog that was definitely in my opinion, fated to be with
my mom. Three years ago, My mom and I drove all the way down to Portland,
Oregon from British Columbia, Canada to find a dog that was a perfect
match for our family. It was tough, and my mom took ages to search online
for a breeder that was genuine and finding a price that was right. Not
only that, we had to find a dog that was gentle and not too hyperactive as
we have five other dogs that were very small.
After searching long and hard, we decided to make the drive to Portland,
Oregon to purchase a Irish Setter. I remember the first time we went to
Oregon, the breeder took out three other dogs before Shannon and my mom was
very, very hesitant because it didn't feel like the "right" dog. Then, the
breeder took Shannon out and it was love at first sight for my mom. My mom
didn't think twice, and said... "That's the dog I want". And weirdly
enough, Shannon was returned to the breeder for some reason. That is how
we got Shannon. And we actually also bought another Irish Setter that was
still a puppy. Funny enough, we couldn't find a name for the second Irish
Setter, so we named it "Puppy". If Shannon sees that the other dog is
hurting or annoying us, she will bark at the other dog.
Shannon is a very gentle and affectionate dog. She may seem shy when she
meets someone the first time, sometimes even just hiding in the corner.
But once she gets to know you, she'll come to you when she is called. You
can tell by the way Shannon pays attention to her surroundings due to the
fact that she knows that she can easily injure the other small dogs that
my mom has. Always attentive to her surroundings tells people that Shannon
has a heart of gold. Shannon does know a couple simple tricks, but we
never taught her. My guess would be that Shannon was trained by the
previous owner that returned her back to the breeder.
My mom and Shannon are definentely fated to be with eachother. Not only
that, my mom owned a Irish Setter when she was in her mid 20's in Taiwan.
I saw a picture of the dog - Shannon and that previous Irish Setter look
the same! All photos are copyright by me, Andy Lu, and you can see more
pictures of Shannon and the others at andyluuuuu.
