Meadow
was found abandoned and nearly dead of dehydration on a Spanish
mountain. Hikers carried her down the mountain and into rescue, and luckily,
rescue was able to save her. Who would dump such a wonderful dog I can not
imagine. She has all the usual attributes people love their dogs
for--cuddly, sweet, intelligent, beautiful, funny, and so on--but she has
some really neat quirks as well. First, she has two little pointy tufts of
wirey hair on the bridge of her nose that look a lot like rhino horns!--so
she is unusually quirky-cute. The other thing that makes her so special is
that whenever she wakes up from either a night's sleep or a long nap, she
gets so excited to see us that she runs over to us making hissing/snorting
noises while doing a little doggy Flashdance and smiling! She pulls her lips
back and all the way up to show us her beautiful smile, letting us know how
happy she is that we are there when she opens her eyes. Nope, I don't care
if people think I'm anthropomorphizing! You have to see it to believe it, I guess.
We absolutely adore her.
Meadow is a Hound Sanctuary rescue and will probably
be our first 'foster failure' (for those who don't know that term, it means
that a foster home decides to adopt the foster dog and make it permanent!)
since founding Hound Sanctuary. She is a wonderful ambassador for Podenco
rescue, a bright representative of the tens of thousands of suffering dogs
who could also be loved and happy were they not used as tools and then
abandoned or worse each year in Spain and elsewhere.
