Introducing Dastardly DeeDee! She is my first Incan Orchid, I got her
with her sister Inka Dinka, and now have a third little sister, four years
later. Same parents, but different litters, and their personalities are all
very different!
We decided to get her when we met her owners, who have become dear
friends. They were having one litter to share and further the breed,
they are not "real" breeders. This is a 2000-year-old primitive breed,
and relatively rare.
There is nothing independent about Dee, she will put herself in harm's
way to protect our new puppy. She lives to make everything okay for
everybody. She is an ancient soul, her petroglyph is on the top of the
mountain in Peru - the Nazca Lines. Something breed specific – she is
missing most of her teeth so her tongue often pokes out the side of her
mouth!
She doesn't especially do tricks, she is quite regal, but she is a
sighthound and has snatched birds from the air. I am not a big believer
in sunscreen for dogs because they just lick it off, but she does have a
full wardrobe as well as her own dresser. She wears light shirts in
summer just to protect her skin. She also loves to roll in our good old
Illinois black glacier dirt. which is excellent for her skin!
She also potty trained herself to pee pads the first time she saw one,
at seven weeks old. She could live on the 500th floor of a high rise and
never go out ;-). She loves to be loved whether it be belly rubs or
snuggles. It's difficult to explain but she's really not "dog"-like,
she's my little alien! And I adore her!
