Wally is a rescue from central Florida. He was a failed hunting dog
whose fear issues and anxiety led his former owners to drop him off at a
shelter, where I picked him up.
Riggins loves to play and chew his bones. He is just a year old, and he also is a fairly rare breed.
Carolina Dogs are domesticated wild dogs, and they are descendants of the Australian dingo. He loves to chase squirrels
and perform tricks! We all love him and he is happy with just about everyone ... with a few exceptions. But Riggins himself is great!
While still fearful of strangers, Wally is always by my side. We're
working through his fears with our trainer to help him be a confident
pup both in and out of the home. While there's nothing he loves more
than being chased around the dog park by his buddies, he's still a lazy
hound who has absolutely no problem snoozing all day. He is just 15
months old, so there is still plenty of time to work on everything with
him.
Wally is an absolute couch potato at home unless I break out his
favorite toy, a flirt pole, which he goes crazy for. Another one of his
favorite games is playing "find it" with either a stuffed duck toy or
some treats. He may be a failed hunting dog but he definitely knows how
to use his nose to find the treats in every nook and cranny of the
apartment. He may have some whippet in him because he's an absolute
speed demon at the park, and has only been caught by greyhounds.
He is quite affectionate of me and my girlfriend but is definitely
independent when he decides he's found a scent in the dog park or woods!
Fortunately, he gets anxious when we're out of sight so he always comes
back to check into where we are.
We're working hard to get him confident with strangers, and I've keeping
track of everything we've learned along the way to share with other
people who have dogs like him.
