We got Penny from a breeder, since she really just fit perfectly into the family. Plus my mom had always wanted a St. Bernard. She was originally named Penuche, as in penuche icing, but it was quickly shortened to Penny. Sometimes she also goes by Pen, too. We trained her as a puppy but it never really worked. She knows sit, but that's the most she'll do. She's stubborn but she's Penny.
She's been calm since she was a puppy just wanting cuddles. When we got her a companion, our chocolate Labrador, then she just wanted to play. She loved to swim and used to love all food. She was never a very active dog, but she made for a great guard dog.
Now she's old and much has changed. She has CCD - canine cognitive dysfunction and leg problems. She now can't swim without supervision. That was since she got stuck in the pond that we decided that. She, like any old dog, doesn't eat as much as she used to. She rarely wants to try anything new at all. Yes, she's got troubles. But that's what happens in old age. She's still Penny. That's part of life. We'll just have to see what life brings. I love her and I always will.
