Maya is my baby girl. I have had her since she was just five weeks, and three days old
(which I would never recommend to anyone ever to get a puppy that early)! I
got her from my third cousin, and his grandpa had passed away so there was a
lot to deal with between funeral and puppies, so I took four of the pups from
the litter) and she and I have been inseparable ever since. Maya is extremely
smart, and by far has been the easiest dog I've ever trained. She knows
common commands like sit, down, off, come, stay, heel, back up, let's go,
ok, leave it, etc. but also knows many tricks like: speak, buffer (soft
bark), shake, roll over, sit up, and is currently learning how to "cover her
eyes."
Maya has taken some agility classes, and excelled in them. She also competes
in dockdogs whenever they come around. She took second last summer at our county
fair! She just loves doing it. Maya absolutely loooooves going to one of our
local ice cream shops for a "doggie sundae," with which she is pictured as
well as her dockdogs ribbon. The ribbon meant more to me than her, so I gave
her an extra prize that she would really enjoy!
Maya is trained to go pheasant hunting, though she never has actually gone.
She was trained during retrieving to sit by my side and wait for her command
to retrieve. All I have to do now is snap my fingers, and she knows exactly
what to do. She used to be a little over excited when bringing a toy back,
so I taught her the "hand" command, where she knows to gently place it in my
hand, then back away. She also knows "pick it up" for when she drops the
ball somewhere out of my hand, or if I drop something and don't feel like
bending over to pick it up,
Maya has many nicknames, including: My, Yo, Yoddell, Turdy, Stinky, etc. Her
personality is more independent than most dogs, except when it comes to
myself. She is extremely clingy with me, but that happens when taken so young - I became her mom.
Maya loves her kitty siblings, and of course is always lounging around with
her doggy brothers, too.
