Ever since I was little, I wanted a dog and I woukd ask my mom almost every day until a special day came. I was with my mom down at the park and this man with a dog was walking around. Being the animal lover I am, I asked to pet her. He then told us a story about how a few days earlier he found her on his doorstep and that it looked like that she had run away from something. Out of nowhere, he then offered her to us for free. As the excited seven-year-old that I was, I begged my parents to let me have her; we went home and asked my dad and he said yes. We came back to the park and retrieved her and I named her after her fur color. It reminded me of vanilla ice cream.
Since that day, she has been the amazing pet my family and friends have known to love. We believe she is a husky/lab mix, but do not know for sure, and are not really sure of her exact age.
She is super silly and knows how to make everyone smile. She also came trained (we think she was a herding dog before she came to us) so it made it really easy to maintain her around the house. We let her outside in the front yard and she never runs away. We do this silly thing with her and we dress her up and she totally lets us as long as she gets a treat with it. Honestly, I don't know what I would do without Vanilla. For over 10 years old, she seems pretty young. She is definitively a staple of our family and we hope she stays with us for many years to come.
