I adopted Kirby when he was six weeks old! He is the nephew of my last boxer Murphy, who unfortunately died several months after he turned seven years old. That was a difficult time in my life as my husband died from cancer just three months before Murphy did. I had the first pick of a male puppy and Kirby was the only male in a litter of eight. I felt like he was a special gift from heaven sent to me from my husband and my previous two boxer boys Murphy and Casey!
He has been a difficult puppy and suffered from separation anxiety very early. He loves to look out the window when I leave home and will paw at the blinds and destroy them quickly if he gets too anxious. A professional trainer helped me for several months and I am now able to leave him alone for about an hour now without destruction. Of course that is with the help of a Thundershirt and playing calm music for him. (Crate training did not work well for him either. That's another story!) I still have to work with him, but I am lucky that I take him to work with me every day and also take him to doggie day care at least once a week for play times with other dogs. He enjoys that!
He is a very special boy to me and I love him dearly! Who wouldn't love that sweet face? I hope and pray that I have many healthy years with him and that maybe one day in the near future he can be home alone and be comfortable enough to not destroy anything. That would make us both very happy!!!
