When I rescued Copper, he was a completely different puppy. He was full of worms and coccidia, had tested positive for parvovirus and had been left by himself in a little pen for his entire life. All he would do is climb up on my shoulder and cling to me. He never barked or played, and never really looked happy to be alive. It was so sad to see something so sweet and young look broken ... and yes, dogs can be broken.
Today, however, I'm looking at him right now curled up on a pillow beside me happily resting and enjoying a lazy Saturday afternon. He bounces and plays and barks and is bonded to my husband and me. You can tell he's so glad to have "his" people. Copper's rescue story isn't as extreme as many, but it's the most amazing feeling to look at him and think of where he /could/ be and know that instead, he's happy, warm, fed and loved. He's got a family and is just another normal, healthy, spoiled rotten little puppy.
