Xolos like Jett are fairly rare dogs and are difficult to find. They are the original wild dogs of Mexico and were domesticated by the Aztecs 2,000 years ago. They are a very primitive, ancient breed. Some are coated and some are hairless and you usually have a mix of both in every litter. Jett is mostly hairless. Fortunately we live in Florida, so she only has to wear clothes during our very short "winter." She's very cooperative when I put her clothes on her because she knows it keeps her warm.
Xolos tend to be velcro dogs and bond very strongly with whomever feeds them, as they are very food driven. She is a smart and funny dog and seems to understand most things I say to her even though she's still a puppy. Everyone who meets her falls in love with her. They are also very alert and have very keen hearing, smell and eyesight. They are wonderful watch dogs. They come in three sizes: Toy, Miniature and Standard. The Toy can be as small as 12 pounds or so, Jett is a Miniature and she is about 20 pounds. The Standard and can get as big as 60 pounds. This is a fascinating breed and we are so fortunate to have found Jett and her wonderful breeder!
