My husband and I adopted Lido just before Christmas this past year. I have owned several dogs as a child but my husband is a recent dog convert, having owned cats all his life. But to be honest I think we got a bit of both with Lido.
Named after an Island in my hometown in Florida, Lido is my third dog to bear a name starting with the letter L, being preceded by Laddie (a beautiful spitfire Shetland Sheepdog) and Lakota (a perpetually happy and energetic American Eskimo). Keeping with tradition Lido has been a fantastic pupper.
He loves to go on car rides and feel the wind in his hair. I swear if we left the window open in a during a rainstorm he would leave his head out there.
Being a working dog breed he is super smart and picks up new commands quickly. Sometimes he's a bit too smart for his own good. He'll run through all the commands he knows - Sit, Drop, Stand, Shake, Look, Touch, Sit - before you can get the treat from your pocket to his snout!
Despite being perpetually ready for a play, Lido loves a good nap and cuddle. Whenever you're sitting, he loves to lean against your leg and then slowly try to sneak onto your lap. Though Lido's not a large dog, he hasn't quite realized he's not the size of a kitten.
Hope you have enjoyed these picture and stories of Lido as much as I have enjoyed having him as part of our family. Signing off as the great Bob Barker always did, "Help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered."
Special shout out to Abby and the 4th grade class at Venice Elementary who reads from DogoftheDay.com every day.
