This is Jackson. My family has a habit of naming our pets after famous people, and Jackson is named after Michael Jackson. He turned one year about a month ago and is a sheer pleasure to have around the house. He is very playful and energetic, yet still loves to cuddle up to me and my mom whenever he's tired. He does not hesitate to cheer you up when you're upset and does this adorable thing when someone is having an argument of laying over the yeller's face to discourage the noise.
Jackson is a purebred Border Collie, yet looks nothing like one. Out of a litter of six puppies, he is the only one who doesn't look like a Collie – including his parents. Everyone we meet always thinks he's a mix to the point where even we've become convinced. We think he might have some German Shepherd from earlier in his lineage, but there's no way to tell for sure.
My mom and I do a thing where I change the lock screen of her phone every month to a new picture of Jackson. Every time it's an ugly picture taken of him when he's mid-bite, or jumping on something, just any time when he looks like an idiot or a crazy dog. It's really funny because I don't warn her when I do this, meaning she may just open her phone one day and there's a brand-new picture of Jackson trying to eat the screen.
He is the first 'large dog' we've had, and it's certainly been an experience. Compared to our old dog, who was very lazy and relaxed, Jackson demands to go on two-hour walks and to play every three minutes otherwise he gets annoyed. My aunt and cousin have a Westie, and he looks massive compared to her – and next to our cat, he looks even bigger. He loves tricks and is very eager to please but doesn't like agility, which is something I hoped I would be able to teach him when he got older. Either way, he is a deeply valued member of our family and we could not love him more.
