Sam is wonderful! He's a Hoosier! He has been with me since he was six weeks old (and fit in the palm of my hand). He has grown into a remarkable dog that is a loving and smart companion.
Sam loves to "sing" to opera. He makes sure to match his pitch and volume with any tenor or soprano he hears. He knows the names of all his toys and particularly loves his "baby". He plays a great game of soccer and is a great goalie; a ball rarely goes past him!
A funny thing happened not long after we moved into a new home. Whenever Sam has been naughty (which isn't very often), he is sent to his "bad" room. In our first house, the "bad room" was the downstairs bathroom. After we moved, we had not established another bad room...and hadn't needed one. One day, Sam was obnoxious and without thinking I said, "Go to your bad room". He looked at me for a second with a puzzled look on his face and then ran down the stairs to sit in the bathroom in our new house!
But Sam's favorite activity is walking. He loves to take out the garbage and check out the neighborhood. He ends each walk by taking the leash and "walking" himself home.
Sam is a delight to live with, truly surpassing the role of pet. Every day he shows those of us lucky enough to share our lives with him the meaning of the phrase "unconditional love."
