I found Rascal through a kennel when she was 12 weeks old. I had recently lost my first dog and was ready to have another, so I went searching. When I got to the kennel to look at her, there she was, all 4 pounds of her. They had put a red bow in her hair and she was so short (still is!) and cute that she didn't look real. I kept looking for the key to wind her up! Her legs were so short that instead of running, she hopped, and usually sideways. She was way too cute to resist, so home she came.
Rascal's favorite toy is her tennis ball. She never tires of playing it and we often have to take the ball away from her to make her get a drink of water and rest. Her tongue will hang down to the ground in the Florida heat. She loves to go along, no matter where we go. I often bring her to work on Fridays, and she is the charmer of the office. She has a great time, everyone fusses over her and makes the mistake of tossing the tennis ball for her. She is relentless when it comes to her ball. She loves to swim, so we take her to the ocean once in a while. We had a special window seat made for her so that she can jump into the front window and watch the world go by.
She does not know her role as a dog, however. Once when I went out on the patio the resident squirrel came around for some peanuts, so I went inside to get the peanuts, leaving the screen door open and Rascal waiting for me. When I turned back around with the peanuts, the squirrel and Rascal were sitting next to each other on the patio! She is truly a strange and wonderful friend.
