The Red Baron, or Baron as he is called for short, was found laying in a sandpitin his native country of Spain. He was almost dead. This was October 8th, 2015. I saw the picture as it played out on FaceBook during his rescue. I knew immediately that I would rescue him if he made it.
Baron is a Podenco. His breed is used in Spain to competitively hunt hare. If they do not do well or are no longer needed, their end is not so good. The Red Baron came to the USA six weeks after he was rescued. He is a goofy, happy, fun boy. He loves everyone he meets, every animal he meets and loves to play. Podencos are extremely smart and very agile dogs. They are loving and make amazing pets. They love to run and they love to sleep.
The Red Baron is a part of The Sighthound Project. It is a photography project to represent the Sighthound breed and capture their beauty. He is also a part of The Million Paw March for Justice. He goes out to visit stores and participates in parades to bring awareness to the plight of his breed in Spain. Oh and he he is special because he has amazingly big ears. :) We love him!
