I rescued Winnie. She was very happy with her first parents, but then they had a baby that needed around-the-clock medical care and they didn't feel they could give Winnie the attention she needed. They surrendered her to a friend, who gave her to the Humane Society. A local dog rescue found out about her and brought her to Illinois.
I think she was meant to be with us. She was being fostered when I filled out the adoption application. It turns out the foster dad grew up in the small town that I live in, and his mom babysat my oldest son when he was a toddler. I was approved before I ever met Winnie.
When we had a visit, I knew she would fit in. I have a male nine-year-old dachshund named Cooper. At first he wasn't impressed, but they have since come to an understanding. She is such a little peanut. She is my Christmas present this year from my husband. And I know she will be a gift I will treasure for many years to come.
