This
is my lovely Irish Setter, Zeitgeist. He is extremely friendly and
always happy. He really loves to find things. We can show him a treat, then
tell him to "wait in the office" ... sometimes he gives a little moan of
"come-on! do I really have to?" then he will run to the office. Then we can
hide the treat anywhere in the house. He will wait patiently, once in a while
a little whine of "Please let me go find the thing!"
Then with the magic command "Investigate!" he will spring into action.
Darting and dashing around the house sniffing and turning, behind the sofas,
under the beds, he really uses all of his senses, especially his nose. If the
"thing" is hidden in a place he can grab, he will get it. If it is hidden
inside a toy chest or in a bag or something, he will tap with his paws a few
times and then sit down and moan an audible "Errrehhww ... Here it is!!!!!" I
will open the chest or bag and he will grab it!
Once he has his treat, he of course eats it. After eating it, he is so full
of joy he will 99.9% of the time run to the sofa and stand on his head and
make the most awesome groaning sounds!
Anyway, he is a very fun and playful dog. Here he is in his DJ costume! He
actually really likes to wear clothing. Most dogs (especially bigger ones)
don't really seem like to wear that stuff, but it does not bother him at all.
In fact he often wears hiking shoes too. We go hiking a lot and when we pull
out his hiking shoes, he goes bonkers. He knows he is going on an adventure.
it is really cute.
As for his name, "Zeitgeist" is a German word, meaning "The defining spirit
or mood of a particular period of history as shown by the ideas and beliefs
of the time." We felt with a name like that, it would never be out of style!
He is the Zeitgeist of our family! I am Swedish, my wife Keiko is Japanese,
he is an Irish setter, so why not a German name? He is a true pleasure to
have as part (if not the center) of our family.
