This
adorable ball of yellow is my pup Starling, we call her Star for short.
She came to me at 5 1/2 weeks old when her former owner and breeder decided
that due to her not looking like all the others in the litter she was to be
drowned. She is 1/4 Rottweiler, 1/4 King Shepherd and 1/2 Labrador Retriever.
Originally I was going for her brother, the first born who was a silvery
colored Rottweiler, but than she ran up and I automatically asked if they had
a lab litter as that is what she looked like. The man than snapped out that
she was going to be drowned as she didn't look like the rest. I paid twice
what the other person paid for their pup but I couldn't leave her there, so
she came home at such a young age meaning I then had to bottle feed her as
she was too young.
But that's not where this story ends. I decided that as I have severe anxiety
and depression issues that I would register her as an anxiety therapy dog
when she turns a year old as that is the youngest they will take her
registartion. I will also register as well as a therapy dog to go into
hospitals at the same age. She is doing great in her training for both, but I
also realized that having a compressed disk, it is hard to bend sometimes.
This is something my family does not understand, so using the retriever in
her I have taught her to fetch things for me that I would have issues getting
otherwise. She is making my life a lot easier and I am glad for it.
Who would of thought that a pup who was destined to be killed so young could
change so much of my life. I love having Star and she has made my life leaps
and bounds easier than before.
