It
still amazes me how people can abandon their pets. We adopted Buddy from
the SPCA on the west coast of the province. He was abandoned in an apartment
when his previous owners moved away, which is where he was discovered,
weighing in around 25 pounds (11 kg) underweight when volunteers rescued him.
The Corner Brook SPCA did an awesome job rehabilitating him, re-socializing
him, and getting him back up to a healthy weight. Unfortunately after almost
a year at the shelter, he was still without a home, largely due to some
underlying dog aggression issues he had, and the shelter was running out of
time and space. We found out about him the day before he was scheduled to be
euthanized, due to space limitations at the shelter. The volunteers were
great, arranging transportation for him across the island free of charge.
Since Buddy arrived home over two years ago, he's made a huge impact on our
family's life. We could tell from the start he had some serious trust, and
abandonment issues but, we knew we were his second chance, and with a little
patience he came around, day by day. Today, we can't imagine our home without
him, or our little girl's best friend to follow her to bed every night. They
are inseparable, and we wouldn't have it any other way!
