We
rescued Monty shortly after his first birthday from an owner that didn't
have the time to spend with a dog of his size. Monty was subsequently kept in
his crate for up to eighteen hours a day. I originally wasn't keen on adding to our
pet family, we have an eight-year-old German shepherd mix, that was already very
much the center of our pet attention.
After meeting Monty, though, we bonded immediately. We couldn't let him go
back to the sad condition he was being raised in. Shepherds are intelligent
dogs that do best with a job, or at least a lot of things to do! Our first
dog has begrudgingly taken on the roles of big brother & mentor, mostly like
a gentleman, though there have been times we can tell his patience is being
tested. Though Monty is still rather timid around strangers, he has
flourished in the two years we've had him. He will try most anything we ask
of him, and has a goofy enthusiasm that is endearing. We love him!
It has been a joy to watch Monty grow emotionally over the last two years. Now he is initially barking
at newcomers but settling down quickly once they're allowed in, and finally
driven by his curiosity allowing them to pet him.
