Billy
was probably the biggest and bravest pup of his litter. He came
straight up to us, bold as anything, and starting chewing on my dad's shoe
laces. We probably should have realized he'd be trouble right then and there.
But we picked him anyway! When he was little he'd steal and chew up anything
he could find (he still likes to steal the TV remote if he can get away with it).
He's a very smart dog, and he tells you exactly what he wants and when he
wants it. If he wants water, he'll bark at you and lead you to the sink. He
loves to swim and there's no way to keep him from diving into any stream or
lake or puddle he can find.
Billy was born with eye problems and by the time he was one his left eye had
turned a cloudy pale blue due to Glaucoma. Glaucoma is a condition in which
pressure is placed on the eye, causing inadequate fluid drainage, and often
even with treatment it results in permanent blindness. Even though Billy's
condition was caught fairly early on, his eye had to be removed. He now has
eye drops in his remaining eye twice a day to try and save his remaining
vision. Despite all this he's still the happiest, most spoiled dog around.
