Sadie
is a rescue Golden Retriever, whom we adopted in December of 2013. She
has such a vigor for life, and is so joyful, you can't help but to be happy
when being around her. She loves the sprinkler, the lake, camping, and having
puppy playtime with other pals!
Sadie is our first Golden that my husband and I adopted together- my family
owned a Golden Retriever/German Shepherd growing up, so that's what led me to
love the Golden Retriever, and convince my husband to adopt one! We fostered
dogs through a local rescue group that specializes in Golden Retrievers. We
fostered three dogs before she caught our eye- when we saw that she and her
entire "family" (Mom, Dad, and the eight puppies) were surrendered by a
commercial breeder, we went to meet them, and Sadie (then known as JJ) went
straight to my husband's lap and fell asleep in it. It was love at first nap!
After we met her, we decided that we wanted a permanent dog in our home- we
felt lonely whenever our foster dogs were adopted.
She is very gentle, but is very spunky. She is almost a year old, and has a
lot of energy. The one phrase I can think of that describes her personality
is - "I love everything," (except the vacuum). I can't think of a thing that
really turns her off. When we go to the dog park, the initial game for her is
to meet every human in the park. I always have to remind her that it's a dog
park, not a people park!
When she's not playing with her dog pals, Sadie knows her basic commands-
sit, stay, lay down, shake, come here, etc. Sadie also knows how to roll
over, and loves the game of fetch. She recently learned how to swim over the
summer, and that's her favorite spot to play fetch! We like to toss the ball
into the lake, and she'll bolt into the water and bounce around (looks like a
scene from Baywatch), then try to frantically swim her fastest to the ball.
It's so hard to get her out of anything that involves water- whether it be
our sprinkler in the yard (she is in love with it), the bathtub (loves
baths), a river while we're "Up North" hiking (will drag us in if necessary),
or at the lake. She's such a retriever!
She is such a lovebug -definitely 100% affectionate, and 0% independent. Our
obedience school trainer had a sympathy moment for her when we were trying to
teach her the "Back" command- we had to tell her to back away from our
"boundary line" that she couldn't cross, and when we told her to do so, her
ears immediately dropped back, her tail went down, and she sauntered back to
the wall and rolled on her back, kind of like a flipped over turtle. Everyone
thought her heart broke in half a little bit because the Humans told her to
go away! She is totally a people dog.
