We found this boy abandoned on the curb, all alone and about a year old with his tail cropped off and he'd obviously been abused. He didn't trust us, or people and mostly hide all the time when he saw us every day. I usually sat down and talked to him, calming him to let him know he was safe now and eventually he started opening up. BJ is special to us because he actually found us, we have two dogs already but as they get older and less active we needed a friend. As he made himself at home he usually made us laugh and was comforting when things got "ruff." ;) To me, a dog is all about being there for you, a best friend, and I believe BJ is the perfect choice to have that everlasting friendship
BJ is in his 'learning process.' He knows sit, shake, stay and more on the way. He loves food - he would literally swim the ocean for a treat and circle the whole entire world for his toys. He prefers the squeaky toys and usually plays keep away. He's an amazing jumper and practically never misses when he flips over. He's more of an annoying little brother to our two older dogs, but we love to play with him. I'm teaching him how to find people, more like hiding some where and he comes and finds us. I would love to have him become a therapy dog, unfortunately he sometimes cries when we're not there since the training requires to leave the dog for a certain period and have him stay calm.
His full name, by the way, is BJ Flopper Schmidt. Flopper, because we've never had a dog with those kind of ears before. BJ stands for Buddy Junior - and Bad Juju since he had a few accidents in his anxiety stage.
Dogs really help my anxiety, whenever I'm having a hard time and need someone to talk to, my dogs are always there for me,. It is as if they know something is wrong, and sit next to me and listen. Cat people, dog people, doesn't matter, I've never felt happier then around animals. BJ makes me smile every day.
