Riley was rescued from the 120°F (49°C) desert and born with a defect
that caused adult teeth to grow without enamel, and he had two broken front leg joints due to very bad dysplasia.
His leg and joint issues were genetic and the malformation caused BB-sized pieces of upper leg bone to break off
and lodge in each joint. As a result he would run around playing then yelp and fall over in pain. It was horrible.
After we had a polymer coating applied on his teeth and operations on his legs, he became a happy boy.
Now he is happy, can do stairs, and can pull himself out of the swimming pool. Riley loves swimming and playing
with his ever present ball. Riley's most unusual commands are "out of the kitchen" which causes him to
back up to the edge of the kitchen counter out of the way of falling knives and hot things, and "I can't reach it"
which alerts him to pick the ball when it is dropped out of my reach and move it closer to me so I can reach it and continue playing (yes I can be lazy!).
Riley is everyone's friend and loves people due to socializing him at various big box stores where he would meet dozens of people each day when he was a puppy. He always wants to show the new person/guest how to play ball with him. Riley knows the names of his toys and can bring the ones requested - he is a smart boy. When he has accepted a visitor into the "pack" he will go over and rest his head on their feet because he is so loving.
When he was rescued from the very hot desert as a puppy, he learned about air conditioning in the car on the way home, keeping his face in front of the vent. To this day he loves AC! And we all love Riley!
