This is Jack,
our three-year-old French Brittany. He was very
mischievous when he a puppy, to say the least. He ate woodwork,
furniture, and destroyed a quilt my grandmother made, to mention
just a few misdeeds! Last summer he started being very listless
and depressed and not eating and we knew something was very wrong.
After an exploratory surgery and many tests, a veterinary hospital
finally diagnosed Addison's Disease. His adrenal glands were not
working properly and without medication he would have died.
He
now has to take a pill every day and he gets a shot every 20 days.
The treatment is expensive, but he is worth it! This disease is
sometimes hard to diagnose. There is good information available
at Pet md's: Addison's Disease in Dogs
Jack used to like to go hunting, but with his disease, he is not
supposed to be stressed, so his hunting days are over. But we keep him
busy with being a loved family dog. With continued treatment, Jack should live a long and happy
life!
