On March 19th, 2015 my boyfriend Andrew and I went out to Pensacola, FL
to have lunch. On the way there I look over to my right and see this big
inflatable cat in the back of a parking lot that's in front of Petco so
I assume an adoption event is going on today. I asked Andrew if he
wanted to go check the event and the store since I actually had never
been to a Petco before. Sure enough once we walked over Pensacola Human
Society had a adoption day going on for dogs and cats. We had no
intention of adopting, but we looked around, gave some love and
attention to some cats and dogs that were there. One dog caught our
attention though. A little 10-week-old puppy named "Chestnut," he was
about 7 lbs. and the runt of his litter.
The woman we were talking to started telling us about Chestnut, she
said he had a rough start in life, dealing with pneumonia and possibly
Parvo (the parvo test came negative, thank goodness). My heart melted
for this dog, Andrew liked him too. Sadly we left and went on to lunch,
but during our whole lunch we ending up talking about Chestnut the whole
time. We decided to go back and, if he was still there, we would adopt
him. The next thing I know Andrew and I are walking back to the car,
with little Chestnut in my arms.
Andrew and I ended up renaming him Copper and it has been wonderful
having him. It's funny seeing all his little quirks he has. He loves to
eat ice cubes! I will put some in his water bowl and he'll sit there,
scoop them up and eat them until they're all gone.
He loves big leaves (and only the big ones) with a passion. You could
throw his toy and he would come back with a leaf instead. Another thing,
our dog loves bath water. To be specific, I've tried to take a bath
before and he pushed the door open, walked over, did not hesitate to hop
in the tub and soak himself shoulder-deep in the water.
Copper's ears I swear have a mind of their own, as you see in the
pictures! Some days they're on the side of his head, some days they're
both perked forward on top of his head, and usually there is even one in
front and one on the side of his head. I call that his "business in the
front, party in the back" look. His ears are probably my favorite thing
about him, because they're definitely special just like him.
