Duke is a pretty special boy, he came from a New Mexico puppy mill, where it wasn't the best life. Friends of animals transferred him here, along with his whole litter and parents. He was the runt of his litter and was the last remaining when I found him.
I was looking for a full bred (adult) Rottweiler, and was having trouble finding one in my price range. My friend sent me a link to him, and as stupid as it sounds, it was love at first sight. His picture was him at probably about a month old and just terrified in the back of a cage. We picked him up the following day and he was the perfect puppy. He was super smart, didn't chew, wasn't very vocal, but he was so scared of everything, from the cat, to the stairs, the tv, even the carpet. He wouldn't walk while on a leash, if anyone approached him he'd pee, and it was quite sad.
He's come a long way from the frightened pup, he's still fearful of cars and people but slowly getting over it. He does wonderfully on a leash, knows a bunch of tricks, loves to give hugs, and is even my emotional support animal. Sometimes I worry that if I had not got him, he would have been returned since he's become quite a costly dog with his health issues (his teeth don't have enamel so they're decaying really fast, his immune system isn't fully developed, and he has severe allergies). He loves to just run and run, so we've started agility training which he's taken quite a liking to. I'm so happy I found this cuddle bug.
