Takeo came into my life when I needed him the most. He showed me how to love after loss and has taught me to have a more positive outlook in life. He suffers severe skin allergies and is on rounds of immunotherapy along with a special diet that suits his needs. Takeo is by far one of the most incredible dogs I have ever worked with, he knows dozens of tricks and commands. He is currently being trained to be my personal therapy dog.
My hope is for other people to be aware of canine skin disorders and skin allergies so that they too can help their beloved dogs as I have my dear little boy.
He is my third dog. I adopted him from a little boy who couldn't care for him after his family adopted him from a friend. He was seven weeks old when I adopted him. From day one he was extremely bright and loved his toys and to sleep inside his cage, which was actually meant for when he grew up. There was never a moment of "crate-training," since being a puppy he lost the cage and moved up to a memory-foam therapeutic dog bed that I purchased him a few Christmases ago. I chose him after nearly two years of losing my previous dog. It left me heartbroken and devastated for months. I swore I would never open myself or my heart to any other dog, but one day I was looking on the Internet for dogs to adopt and I found him. By all luck, the young boy chose me to adopt him above all the others who had requested to adopt him. As the weeks went by, he slowly opened my heart and soul to the possibility that "it's okay to love again," and that I did. We are truly inseparable and I love him to death. There is not a single thing I would not do to better my dog, Takeo.
Takeo is an extremely loyal, one-person dog. While not so much on the cuddly side of the spectrum, he provides excellent company and stays by my side at all times. He aids in household things such as picking up his toys and placing them in his basket. If an item is dropped on the floor, he rushes to pick it up and hand it to me. Even going as far as opening cabinet doors and picking up trash and tossing it in the trash can. Apart from the simple "sit, stay and lie down," Takeo can shake and alternate paws on command, give double high-fives, speaks and rolls over. He can sit up, and even hold things in his mouth like buckets as he does so. Once laying down, a simple "put your head down" will let him know to do just that. He can give hugs and "kiss" on command. If objects like bowling pins are set up, giving a "tip them over" will make him knock them all down. One of our favorite activities is when he is taken outside where I've had a small obstacle course set up with jumps and polls. He loves to jump over rails. His favorite trick is weaving through my legs as I walk in a straight line. He seems to take such joy in learning. There are so many little tricks that he does, that aren't common things. Such as: placing a paw on an object when commanded to "touch it." Asking him to bring me something and him bringing anything he can find. And even just the most important to me, the "I'm sad," where he comes running and just sits by me. This dog is truly a treasure to my heart and a gift from God.
At one year of age Takeo was diagnosed with food and environmentally related skin allergies. Afterwards I did as much research as I could, had his tests ran and found all the things he is allergic to and proceeded with my decision to try immunotherapy, to which has helped saved my dog's life. Apart from immunotherapy, Takeo is also on a quality LID (limited ingredient diet) food along with a vet prescribed pill known as Apoquel which has helped considerably and even made it to where my dog could be taken off monthly steroid injections. It is extremely costly, but I work as an artist and crafter to provide for my dog and all proceeds go towards his care needs. At now 3 years of age, Takeo is nearly cured from his allergies and only has to have simple regular maintenance doses of immunotherapy to keep things under control. What a blessing!
I recently just found out that Takeo, was chosen to be in this pet contest. If he wins he will be made into a little figure that goes inside of a chocolate brand like the kinder eggs called "Yowie" that promotes animal education.
Please if you can, vote for my dog by hitting 5-stars. The top photo on his page here is his photo and he is on page three or the third row if you scroll down, on that site depending on what device you are using. Here is the link to vote.
Thank you SO much! I genuinely want to be able to promote dogs with skin allergies so more people can be educated on the topic to help other dogs like Takeo, who suffer with skin disorders.
Thank you in advance for your support!
