I was driving home with my two dogs after giving them their daily exercise when I saw three young guys on a corner with a puppy. I stayed at the Stop sign looking at her because she was crawling on her stomach up to another person, and I wondered if it was just puppy subservience or that she suffered from abuse. One of the young men asked if I wanted her for $10, and I said yes. My thought was only to save her from them, not to keep her.
The next morning I took her to my local no-kill shelter. Rather than lying and saying I found her, I told the intake woman what had happened, but she said the $10 made the puppy my dog and they don't take owner surrenders. I was very upset as I have fostered kittens for this organization a few times, and they have me on file for bringing in strays (I live in a not-so-great neighborhood). Apparently telling the truth is not always the best policy.
Two months and an expensive spay later, I still have Molly and I guess she's staying. Facebook posts shared by friends didn't work, and I'm not sure why as she's quite cute. Looks aren't her problem.
What are her problems? Excessive energy that drives my houseful of cats crazy, a lot of barking, getting in to things she shouldn't, and worst of all, not getting the hang of going to the bathroom outdoors. Never have I had a problem house training a dog before, but Molly just goes outside and inside with seemingly no distinction. I feel sad for the indoor cats who were already fed up with my crowded, small house, but hopefully she'll grow out of harassing them with a bit of age. She's as sweet as can be and a very happy girl. Sometimes you just have to roll with it.
